Rep. Mike Thompson has introduced legislation that would designate the U.S. postal facility at 100 Admiral Callaghan Lane as the "Philmore Graham Post Office Building," it was announced Tuesday.
Every member of California's congressional delegation has cosponsored Thompson's bill.
Graham, who founded the Continentals of Omega Boys and Girls Club in North Vallejo, died on June 12. He was 75.
"There is no one more deserving of this recognition than Philmore Graham," Thompson, D-St. Helena, said in a statement. "Mr. Graham served our country in the Air Force, founded the Continentals of Omega Boys and Girls and was the only African American to have ever been named supervisor of Mare Island's Department of Nuclear Energy.
"He devoted his life to the idea that all children should have the opportunity to achieve their dreams. It's only fitting that we honor this lifetime of work by forever naming our post office after Philmore Graham."
Graham's son, Montoya Graham, said, "On behalf of the Graham family, we thank Congressman Thompson for honoring a man who dedicated his entire life so that others could succeed."

It is with great sadness yet excitement that this is my last day as Executive Director for the Continentals of Omega Boys & Girls Club. It has been an amazing 2 years and 8 months building our programs, staff, sites, Board, and Budget. I thank all the Board of Directors Members and supporters who have made these past years a success; I hope that you continue your support for the youth of our city!
My new role will be Executive Director with The First Tee of Contra Costa (which also serves Solano County). At the First Tee the mission is “To impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf”.
I will still be living in the Vallejo area and supporting the Club. I am already building a bowling team for the Saturday, November 1, 2014 “Bowl 4 Youth” event held from 12-3 at Kentwick Lanes in Vallejo. I challenge each of you do to the same…let’s have a blast that day!!!! It’s not just about the bowling, it is about helping the Club Kids programs.
I hope to still connect with you all on Facebook and around the community! Blessings to you all!
